Waterford Airport’s Executive William Bolster has called for immediate action to finalise the runway extension and refurbishment, highlighting the potential economic benefits for the South East of Ireland.

Bolster told the Irish independent he was urging Transport Minister Eamon Ryan to approve the project, noting that a €12m deal with the Comer Group aims to position Waterford Airport as a viable alternative to other airports, particularly in light of Dublin’s passenger cap challenges.

The runway extension is anticipated to accommodate jets like the Boeing 737, and discussions are ongoing with airlines, including Ryanair, which has shown interest in providing services if the project proceeds.

The extension project has faced delays in securing final approval, but Bolster put emphasis on the collaborative investment efforts from private and public sectors, aiming to enhance regional connectivity and create jobs.
