Eurocontrool’s updated seven-year air traffic forecast predicts that traffic in the ECAC area will reach 10.7 m flights in 2024, marking a 5.1pc increase over 2023 and recovering to 96pc of pre-pandemic levels from 2019.
For 2025, the forecast anticipates further growth, projecting 11.1 m flights, with expectations that the monthly flight volumes will match or exceed 2019 levels during the summer.
Long-term projections indicate that by 2030, air traffic could exceed 12 m flights in the base scenario and surpass 13 m in a high scenario.
The forecast shows a slight upward revision in overall flight growth for states part of the Single European Sky Performance Scheme, averaging 2.3pc annually from 2025 to 2029, though it acknowledges a range of uncertainties that could impact these predictions.
