Storm Ashley causes cancellation of 60 flights at Dublin Airport

Storm Ashley caused the cancellation of 60 flights at Dublin Airport due to challenging weather conditions and their effects on other airports.

Strong winds also caused 27 go-arounds and 28 diversions to other airports.

Shannon Airport experienced 13 flight diversions from Cork and Dublin.

Disruptions are affecting Monday schedules for airlines due to misplaced aircraft and crews. Departures at Dublin airport that have been cancelled include:

  • Amsterdam KL1134@05.55
  • Rome EI402@06.20
  • Manchester EI202@06.30
  • Paris CDG EI520@06.40
  • Heathrow BA831@07.15

Shauns Aviaton monitored event at the airport and concluded: on time departures: 36pc • on time arrivals: 41pc, strongest gust on average: 50knots (93kmh) @ 16:03, strongest wind speed on average: 28knots (51kmh) @ 16:03, 29 diversions, approximately 50 go-arounds by 30 flights.

The airport team collaborated with AirNav Ireland and airline partners to mitigate passenger disruption.Graeme McQueen shared: “High winds made it a challenging day at Dublin Airport but the airport team has worked closely with our colleagues in AirNav Ireland and our airline partners to minimise disruption for passengers as much as possible. As of 6.30pm a total of 27 aircraft have performed go-arounds with 28 opting to divert to other airports. Further disruption is possible over the coming hours. Disruption at Dublin Airport and other airports could mean some aircraft and crews are out of place, which could impact on airlines’ Monday schedules.
