How painful. How unadventurous. Iberia has taken delivery of the A321XLR for which Aer Lingus was to be the launch customer, only to lose it due to the pilot’s strike in early summer.

Airbus delivered the first A321XLR to Iberia, which will operate the aircraft on regional flights across Europe starting with a Madrid-Paris route on Nov. 6, before launching transatlantic service to Boston on Nov. 14.

Iberia’s CEO highlighted the aircraft’s efficiency and capability to access new destinations, expanding service on transoceanic routes and supporting more frequencies beneficial for business passengers.

Iberia is set to receive a total of eight A321XLRs, with further deliveries planned throughout 2024 and 2025, while Aer Lingus will receive six A321XLRs and also aims to utilize them for expansion in the U.S. market.
