A new exhibition titled “Developing Shannon – Exposing Narratives from Negatives” at the University of Limerick’s Glucksman Library showcases a photographic archive celebrating Shannon’s rich heritage and history.
Based on the Shannon Development Photographic Collection, the exhibition features around 250,000 items including photographs and documents, digitized to enhance accessibility, with support from the Wellcome Trust.
The exhibition highlights Shannon’s transformation from agricultural roots to an industrial and tourism hub during the late 1950s to early 1970s, while also showcasing the societal changes in Ireland during that time.
Acting UL President Professor Shane Kilcommins stessed the exhibition’s role in preserving and sharing local history, reflecting community efforts and a commitment to cultural heritage on an international platform.
