County Cork’s first greenway, extending 23 km from Midleton to Youghal along a former railway line, has officially opened to cyclists and walkers, with the final 15 km stretch recently completed.

The greenway, which connects to Midleton Train Station and several other access points, is expected to promote economic growth and tourism, with support from various local stakeholders and government bodies.

Local businesses, like Connect Coffee and bike hire services, are capitalizing on the new cycling route, indicating a positive impact on community engagement and local entrepreneurship.

Cork County officials see the greenway as a vital resource for active travel, recreation, and enhancing connections to nature, with hopes of reviving the tourism appeal of Youghal reminiscent of its popularity in the mid-20th century.
