The Dublin Airport Authority is planning to submit a ‘no build’ operational application to increase Dublin Airport’s passenger cap to 36m annually, aiming for a swift review by Fingal County Council on December 20, 2024.

This application focuses on addressing the cap impasse without proposing new infrastructure, which could expedite the planning process and improve Ireland’s connectivity and tourism.

Complementing this, the daa has also lodged a separate infrastructure application intended to raise the airport’s capacity to 40 million passengers, supported by a €2.4 billion investment for enhancements and sustainable improvements.

Daa CEO Kenny Jacobs shared a statement on the importance of a collaborative approach among stakeholders to effectively address this pressing issue affecting Ireland’s primary transport hub: “There is widespread agreement that a pragmatic and constructive approach is needed to resolve this critical national issue impacting Ireland’s main transport hub. Dublin Airport already has the capacity to comfortably manage 36 million passengers a year. Our ‘no build’ operational application provides a sensible short-term solution while we wait for approval for daa’s bigger infrastructure application submitted a year ago this week. We call on all parties to work together to solve this issue for Ireland. We welcome all efforts to promote more joined-up thinking in both the planning system and strategic infrastructure development so our island nation can thrive.”
