Lufthansa is encountering further complications with the Boeing B787-9 deliveries, exacerbated by delays in the Federal Aviation Administration’s (FAA) certification of new business class seats from Collins Aerospace.
CEO Carsten Spohr revealed that while Boeing has completed 15 of the ordered B787s, only six are equipped with the new Allegris business class seats, which are currently stuck in certification limbo.
Unlike the B787-9s, Lufthansa’s A350-900s already feature Allegris seats, produced by Thompson Aero, highlighting a difference in seat suppliers between aircraft models.
Lufthansa has a total of 34 B787-9s on order but currently operates five that were selected as whitetails, meaning they are not outfitted with the new seats, thus evading the FAA certification delays.
