The International Rugby Experience (IRE) in Limerick officially closed its doors on December 23, 2023, after opening in May 2023.
Approximately 50 employees were affected by the closure. The establishment attracted over 60,000 visitors in its short operation span but struggled to secure a transfer to the council-owned Discover Limerick DAC, , the council-owned tourism company, due to funding challenges.
The attraction claims to have contributed €9 million to the local economy.
The building remains in the ownership of horse racing mogul JP McManus who owns a string of other properties including the five-star Adare Manor hotel and spa resort which is to host the Ryder Cup golf tournament in 2027.
