North Korea’s Air Koryo flies to Shanghai for first time in five years

A North Korean passenger aircraft operated by Air Koryo flew to Shanghai for the first time in five years. Previous scheduled international services are only operated from Pyongyang to Beijing, Shenyang, and Vladivostok.

The aircraft, a Tu-204-300 with the tail number P-632, landed at Shanghai Pudong International Airport at approximately 10:10 p.m. KST.

The flight, designated JS157, originated from Pyongyang Sunan International Airport and took about two hours to complete.

Air Koryo, founded on September 21, 1955, is North Korea’s state-owned flag carrier airline, operating from Pyongyang International Airport.

The airline has a fleet of 20 aircraft and operates under the National Aviation Administration of the DPRK and is controlled by the North Korean air force, serving both commercial and governmental flights.

Air Koryo’s fleet primarily includes Soviet and Russian aircraft models like Ilyushin and Tupolev, as well as Antonov aircraft from Ukraine, with one serving as the personal aircraft for Kim Jong Un.
