A Swiss Airlines cabin crew member died following an emergency landing due to engine issues on an Airbus A220 flight.

The flight was traveling from Bucharest to Zurich with 74 passengers on board when it encountered smoke in the cockpit and cabin.

The crew member had been in intensive care for a week after the incident, with the airline choosing not to disclose the cause of death.

Preliminary investigations indicate a potential technical defect in one of the engines, leading to an inquiry by Austrian prosecutors into possible negligent bodily injury.

SWISS CEO Jens Fehlinger “We are devastated at our dear colleague’s death. His loss has left us all in the deepest shock and grief. Our thoughts are with his family, whose pain we cannot imagine. I offer them my heartfelt condolences on behalf of all of us at SWISS. And we will, of course, be doing everything in our power to help and support them at this extremely difficult time.”
