The European Court of Justice is expected to take at least a year to rule on issues concerning the controversial passenger cap at Dublin Airport, which aims to maintain safe operational limits.

The Irish Aviation Authority has initiated this cap to prevent Dublin Airport from exceeding a threshold of 32m annual passengers.

DAA’s Kenny Jacobs told a press conference in Dubin that the ruling process may still be quicker than waiting for decisions from An Bord Pleanála on similar matters.

Dublin Airport handled 34.6m passengers in 2024, up from 33.3m in 2023.
