Matthews Coach Hire, the Inniskeen-based family-run bus operator founded by Paddy and Mary Matthews in 1995, has been sold to Aberdeen based FirstGroup plc, owners of Aircoach.

Initially established to provide local bus services, including school and commuting routes from Dundalk and Drogheda to Dublin, Matthews Coach Hire has expanded its offerings over the years, now operating a fleet of more than 40 vehicles, including electric coaches.

FirstGroup’s acquisition includes the Inniskeen depot. The Matthews leadership team will continue to manage daily operations with oversight from FirstGroup, ensuring that the quality and reliability of services for commuters in Louth and Meath remain consistent.
