Dublin City Council has launched a new research project, Abhainn, accessible through the Dublin Discovery Trails app, offering a 9km walking trail composed of 7 episodes dedicated to the city’s rivers and their significance.

Curated by Ruth Carroll, Abhainn explores Dublin’s connection to water and the life supported by its rivers, presenting both a digital and analogue version of the project.

The project combines community stories and environmental research, featuring contributions from musician Colm O’Cíosóig and photography by Sean Breithaupt, and asks participants to engage with the city from a hydrological perspective.

Funded by Creative Ireland and the Dublin City Council, Abhainn promotes urban biodiversity education and awareness on vital water systems, encouraging people to download the app for free and participate in this unique exploration of Dublin’s heritage.
