Plans revived for hospitality school in former Pretty Polly factory in Killarney

The Kerry ETB has says it is working with SOLAS to refine their Preliminary Business Case for the proposed but stalled new hospitality training school in Killarney.

The project which falls under the FET College of the Future Major Projects fund, with future evaluations targeted for the first quarter of this year.

In November 2022, then Minister for Higher Education Simon Harris announced plans for the new hospitality training school, intended to be established at the former Pretty Polly factory, which has been derelict for years.

As of now, the project has not progressed; the site has not been acquired, and a complete business plan is still in development, prompting concern from local officials including TD Michael Cahill and the Killarney Chamber of Commerce.

The proposed Centre of Excellence in Hospitality aims to enhance skills development in hospitality while incorporating renewable energy and sustainable practices, overseen by the Kerry Education and Training Board (Kerry ETB).
