A new compensation scheme tailored for farmers will have to introduced if Cliffs of Moher Walking Trail is reopened, according to Tom Lane of Clare IFA, who represents some of the 38 farmers involved..

The popular 18km trail was closed in August after Sport Ireland announced it could no longer insure sections of the trail while open to the public.

This decision followed the tragic deaths of three individuals in separate accidents that occurred on the trail between May and July.

Negotiations are currently ongoing to create a workable solution that addresses the concerns of both farmers and public safety.
