Concerns have been expressed about The West Clare Railway Greenway project by local lobbyists after Transport Infrastructure Ireland refused funding for the Ennistymon to Moyasta section of the project.
An allocation of €850,000 is set for Kilrush to Kilkee and the refusal of the €500,000 for the Ennis to Ennistymon segment of the proposed greenway means it cannot proceed to the next stage of development.
Consultation on the stalled greenway project have been ongoing with local landowners since 2017. A public consultation has been held on route options along with tourism and appraisal studies, and the appointment of key specialists, including a Land Valuer, Project Agronomist, Legal Advisors, Quantity Surveyors and Landscape Architects.
