An OPW service vehicle was obstructed at the Lime Avenue entrance of Castletown House by around twenty protesters yesterday in an escalation of an ongoing access dispute to the visitor attraction.
Castletown House has remained largely closed to the public for the past 19 months, restricting service vehicle access since Christmas.
A local pressure group self-styled the Gatekeepers group continues to maintain their presence at the entrance, blocking the OPW’s buggy solution to allow access for service vehicles.
OPW representatives stated that their plans ensure controlled access for essential service vehicles while maintaining safety for pedestrians.
OPW vehicles to a value of €500,000 wre recently vandalized while being stored at a yard in Donaghcumper.
