Sligo Council organises neolithic tour to celebrate European Archaeology Day on Friday

A guided bus and walking tour of Sligo’s Neolithic landscape is scheduled for Friday, June 13th, 2025, organised by Sligo County Council to celebrate European Archaeology Day.

The tour will visit key passage tomb sites and will be led by Dr. Robert Hensey, who oversees the Sligo World Heritage Site bid.

Participants will meet at Sligo Retail Park in Carraroe at 10.30 am and will engage in both bus travel and guided walks, lasting approximately three hours.

Walking boots and weather-appropriate clothing are required for the tour, along with fluids and snacks, while dogs are not permitted.

The event is free, but places are limited to a maximum of 25 individuals, with advance booking necessary via Eventbrite.

Robert Hensey shared that the tour will involve travel by bus and a guided walk at selected locations, “While the event is free of charge, places are strictly limited and booking is essential.”
