Wicklow Gaol visitor attraction to close September 30 as new management contract sought

Wicklow Gaol will close for renovations starting 30 September, as Wicklow County Council seeks new management.

The duration of the closure is currently undefined, causing uncertainty about reopening in time for Halloween. Halloween is a popular time for Wicklow Gaol, known for its paranormal night tours.

New management for the gaol will be procured through a public process initiated by the council. The closure affects one of the key tourist attractions in the Wicklow area. The gaol received 25,105 visitors in 2023.
