Dingle in West Kerry has been named the overall winner of Ireland’s Greenest Places 2025. The award recognises the local community’s dedication to protecting and improving their environment for future generations.

The peninsula receives one million visitors annually despite a population of 1,600 in the town and 13,000 in the wider area. Projects focus on energy, transport, agriculture, and sustainable tourism, including waste reduction at food festivals and tree planting.

The competition received over 120 nominations, with winners selected from a shortlist of 14 entries by a panel including Eamon Ryan, Kevin O’Sullivan, Lisa Browne, Rosita Boland, and Mary Minihan.

The Judges shared: “They care for their beautiful environment, they know they have to protect it and as a result they create imaginative ways to be more sustainable in the way people work and live there. They also understand they have a responsibility to improve the peninsula and to leave it in a better place for the next generation of residents and visitors.”
