Thai Airways plans to eliminate first-class cabins within two to three years, replacing them with enhanced Royal Silk business class seats across its fleet.
The new business class, costing around €2,800 per round trip, will feature privacy doors, lie-flat beds, and improved in-flight entertainment on Boeing 787-9s from 2028.
The airline’s three remaining first-class Boeing 777s, operating Bangkok to London and Tokyo, will be retrofitted to include the new business-class suites.
Thai Airways’ 17 Airbus A321neo aircraft, arriving in 2025 and 2026, will also feature the upgraded business class for regional routes.
The carrier exited bankruptcy in June 2025, having reduced its debt from €5.4 billion, and aims to strengthen its position as a regional aviation hub.
Chai Eamsiri shared: “This seat upgrade plan ensures all Thai Airways aircraft offer consistent, standardised products across the fleet. Major international airlines have already abolished first class and left business class as the top tier.”
