Two Dublin rotations today among knock-on effects of cyber attack on Collins Aerospace

Two Dublin flights Brussels EI630@06.50 and Heathrow EI154@07.30 are among further cancellations today as the result of a cyber attack on Collins Aerospace caused extensive disruptions at several European airports.

Heathrow experienced significant delays with 445 disruptions and 18 cancellations reported on the peak day of the incident, forcing a switch to manual check-in procedures.

  • Brussels Airport requested airlines to cut t half of all scheduled flights from 04:00 to 12:00 UTC on Saturday, and finished the day with 114 total cancellations and 17 delays beyond one hour. Airlines have been left with compensation liabilities potentially exceeding €5m. 
  • Berlin Brandenburg Airport reported eight cancellations and significant delays in light of the attack.
  • London Heathrow experienced for 150 departures, some up to three hours.

Earlier reports indicate a 600 per cent increase in cyberattacks on airlines, prompting concerns over the security of interconnected aviation systems.

Brussels Airport shared, “This has a large impact on the flight schedule and will unfortunately cause delays and cancellations of flights.”

Berlin Brandenburg Airport shared, “Longer waiting times at check-in are to be expected due to a shared system provider.”

Officials at London Heathrow shared, “The hit was minimal.”
