Global air cargo demand grew by 4.1pc year-on-year in August 2025, with international operations up 5.1pc.

African airlines led with an 11.0pc demand increase, while North American carriers saw a 2.1pc decline, the weakest performance according to IATA

Europe-Asia and Within Asia trade lanes recorded double-digit growth at 13.0pc and 12.4pc, respectively. Capacity rose by 3.7pc globally, with African airlines seeing the highest increase at 12.3pc.

Global goods trade grew by 5.4pc in July, and jet fuel prices dropped 6.4pc year-on-year in August.

Willie Walsh shared: “Air cargo demand grew 4.1pc in August, marking the sixth consecutive month of year-on-year growth. Volumes continue to grow even as global trade patterns change.”
