A UPS cargo plane has crashed in Louisville, Kentucky, killing seven, including three crew, and injuring 11 on the ground.
The MD-11 freighter erupted into flames after takeoff from Muhammad Ali International Airport, igniting fires in an industrial area. The National Transportation Safety Board will investigate, with the airport expected to reopen on 5 November after debris clearance.
Authorities issued a shelter-in-place order within a 5-mile radius due to air quality hazards, later reduced to one mile. UPS reported potential delivery delays, with the 34-year-old plane having flown from Baltimore earlier that day.
Craig Greenberg shared “Four deaths were confirmed on the ground.”
Andy Beshear shared “The death toll was at least seven and expected to rise.”
John Cox shared “That airplane should have flown on two engines.”
