Mayo County Council revealed a masterplan to transform Moorehall into a nature reserve and cultural heritage destination.
The plan includes restoring Moorehall House ruins, reviving the walled garden, and building a visitor centre, launched by Minister Dara Calleary.
Enhancements cover biodiversity, woodland management, and themed walking trails linking to nearby heritage sites. Environmental assessments will protect the Lesser Horseshoe Bat habitat, with an aim to attract 90,000 visitors annually. The 78-acre estate, bought for €400,000 in 2018, targets integration into the Joyce Country and Western Lakes Geopark.
Dara Calleary shared “The imagination and the vision to restore Moorehall will position Moorehall as a flagship destination in the West of Ireland.”
Sean Carey shared “Collaborations like the one seen in this Masterplan can take time to come to fruition.”
Kevin Kelly shared “This plan is not just a document; it is a roadmap for the future of one of Mayo’s most treasured landscapes.”
