A busy first month has been reported by the Shackleton Experience, which reopened in Athy town hall after a €7.5m redevelopment.
The institution displays the largest collection of Shackleton artefacts worldwide. Features include the cabin where Shackleton died and models of Endurance, Quest, and James Caird lifeboat.
One aspect of the experience simulates the crew’s escape from the ice-bound Endurance ship. Rare film footage is shown in a reconstructed 1920s-style theatre.
