A fundraising campaign set up to support the family of the Turkish pilot who died in an air crash in Waterford on Thursday having earlier taken off from Sligo Airport in Strandhill.

Bircan Dokuzlar, the father of two boys, tragically lost his life in the plane crash in Waterford, on November 20.

The private six seat twin engine Vulcanair P68C took off from Sligo Airport at 11.20 am on Thursday and headed for Bezier in France but turned back off the south coast and headed for Waterford airport around 1pm.

The wreckage removed from the scene by a forklift and a flat bed truck, which took it to an AAIU facility in Gormanstown, County Meath.

Kaan Demiroz shared: “Known for his diligence, honesty, and dedication, Bircan was an honourable man who tirelessly worked for his family despite all hardships. This sudden and devastating loss has left his family not only in deep grief but also facing the heavy burden of funeral, burial, international transportation, and the many needs the family now faces without him. This period is extremely challenging for the family, both financially and emotionally. All support collected will help lighten the Dokuzlar family’s burden during this difficult time and allow them to take a small breath of relief. Your support and solidarity in these most difficult days mean the world to us. We sincerely thank you for your prayers, shares, and contributions.”

One Irish donor shared: “My condolences to all of Bircan’s family and friends. We in Waterford are heartbroken for your tragic loss. You are in our thoughts and prayers.”
