Abbey Group has revealed a new strategic partnership with the Green Ocean Foundation reinforcing its commitment to sustainability, climate action and nature restoration. The announcement coincides with Ireland and the EU’s SDG Week. This new partnership represents an important step in Abbey Group’s sustainability strategy building on the company’s commitment to creating positive environmental and community impact across the destinations in which it operates.

Through its partnership with Green Ocean Foundation, Abbey is supporting practical locally driven initiatives that help strengthen biodiversity, restore natural ecosystems and inspire greater environmental awareness among businesses, communities and visitors. Founded in 2023 the Green Ocean Foundation is dedicated to restoring Ireland’s marine ecosystems beginning with the revival of native oyster reefs in Dublin Bay and on the East Coast of Ireland.

Green Ocean brings together scientists, schools, businesses, volunteers and coastal communities to return oysters to the sea and rebuild the natural systems that keep Ireland’s waters healthy. Through this partnership Abbey Group will support Green Ocean’s restoration projects, amplify public awareness and help mobilise the tourism sector toward measurable climate and biodiversity action.

Darren Byrne, CEO of Abbey Group, shared: “Tourism has an extraordinary ability to connect people with the world and create lasting positive impact in the communities and destinations we promote. At Abbey Group, we believe that protecting and enhancing our natural environment is a shared responsibility. Our partnership with the Green Ocean Foundation reflects our commitment to supporting initiatives that deliver tangible benefits for biodiversity, local communities and future generations. We are proud to support the restoration of Ireland’s marine ecosystems and contribute to a healthier, more resilient natural environment.” David Lawlor, Founder of the Green Ocean Foundation, shared: “We are delighted to host Abbey Group as a strategic partner. Their leadership in sustainable tourism and their willingness to take meaningful climate action sends a powerful message. Restoring Ireland’s native oyster reefs is a long-term effort that requires collaboration across sectors, and Abbey’s support will help us scale our impact. Together, we can restore what nature once perfected and inspire others to join the movement for ocean recovery.”
