Air New Zealand’s new economy class rent-a-bunk-bed for four hours: how it works

0

The Air New Zealand Skynest is a world-first bunk-bed concept designed to give economy and premium economy passengers access to true lie-flat sleep.

Under the passengers remain in their standard economy seat for the majority of the flight. When the pre-booked 4-hour slot begins, they then move to the dedicated sleep zone located between the cabins

Each private pod features full bedding, a pillow, a privacy curtain, ventilation, a reading light, and USB charging. Fliers also receive a “Nestcessities” kit with an eye mask and earplugs. Users must be physically able to enter and exit the bunks independently, which can require climbing or crawling into the stacked layout.

It is an alternative to the Economy Skycouch which turns a single row of three consecutive economy seats into a cohesive couch space.

Specially designed footrests lift up fully to a 90-degree angle, filling the gap between your seat and the seat in front of you to create a flat surface. It is designed to appeal to solo travelers who want space to stretch, couples, or parents traveling with young children.

IThe crew provides a dedicated wrap-around seat liner, a soft fleece blanket, pillows, and specialized cuddle belts to keep you safely buckled while lying down.
