AirAsia Thailand and AirAsia X Thailand launched five new routes on Monday, enhancing connectivity from Bangkok and Chiang Mai to boost regional travel options.
The additions include direct international flights from Bangkok Don Mueang to Sendai in Japan, Almaty in Kazakhstan, and Riyadh in Saudi Arabia, each with four weekly services. Domestic expansion covers Chiang Mai to Udon Thani, also four times weekly, while a fifth-freedom route links Bangkok Don Mueang to Luang Prabang in Laos and Hanoi in Vietnam. These routes, available since 1 December, operate on Airbus A320 and A330 aircraft under open-sky agreements for Mekong countries.
The moves align with Thailand’s efforts to stimulate tourism amid a projected 33.4m visitors for 2025, down 6pc from 2024. Bookings opened immediately, with fares starting at €50 one-way for regional legs.
