August Craft Month has returned for its fifth all-island edition, celebrating the island’s thriving craft community through almost 500 events across all 32 counties. The popular event features over 3,000 makers taking part, more than three times last year’s participation. The programme includes workshops, exhibitions, open studios, demonstrations, markets and Meet the Maker sessions, with many events free and suitable for families.
World renowned designers alongside emerging local artisans have formed a collective of over 3,500 talented makers for this year’s celebration. Craft NI and Design and Crafts Council Ireland partner to deliver events celebrating over 25 different disciplines. The programme provides a perfect platform for the public to find out about craftspeople and makers in their local area or in another county and to support them through purchasing their work.
Remaining events include Gals Night in Bangor with pottery demonstrations, Fused Glass Wave Workshop in Portadown, Cathedral Quarter Sunday Market in Belfast’s Writers’ Square, Make a Leather Belt at Island Arts Centre in Lisburn, Derry Designer Makers meet the creatives, and Belleek Pottery Hands On Experience. The Strule Arts Centre in Omagh features work by Sharyn Kelly in mixed media. The full island-wide programme is available at www.augustcraftmonth.org.
