Aviation analysts have been examining fresh data that shows average flight distances rising in the Eurocontrol area. The average distance per flight rose to 1,175 km in 2025, an increase of 18 km from 2024. Flights passed through an average of 3.7 countries in the network manager area with nearly one third crossing French airspace.
The share of regional jets declined from 9pc in 2018 to 6pc in 2025. Average maximum take-off weight stood at 90.9 tonnes in 2025, up 0.5 tonnes from 2024. The Boeing 737-800 and Airbus A320 remained the most common aircraft types.
Average flight level increased slightly to FL 351 in 2025. The average number of seats per flight rose to 184 in 2025. This reflects a shift towards narrow-body and wide-body aircraft.
