British Airways has unveiled a cabin retrofit for all 12 of its Airbus A380 superjumbos. The multi-million-pound project marks one of the most extensive cabin transformations in the airline’s history, requiring the installation of over 35,000 components per aircraft. The new layout prioritises premium seating, dropping total capacity from 469 seats down to 417 seats. The first upgraded aircraft is scheduled to enter service in the coming months, with the full rollout continuing through 2028.

The most significant layout shift happens upstairs. British Airways is converting the entire upper deck into a single, massive Club World business class space. There will be 106 Club Suites arranged in a 1-2-1 reverse-herringbone configuration, with every seat featuring direct aisle access and closing privacy doors. This replaces the dense front-and-back yin-yang layout. The upper deck will be broken up into four distinct mini-cabins to keep the experience feeling exclusive despite its massive scale. Passengers have access to dedicated dwell areas and a refreshed onboard Club Kitchen for mid-flight snacks.

The main deck handles the remaining three cabin classes, seeing a heavy downsizing of standard economy to build out a more spacious premium economy environment. First Class has 12 suites, down from 14 seats, with new ultra-wide 36.5-inch First suites designed to mimic a luxury hotel. Features include a 79-inch lie-flat bed, a 32-inch 4K entertainment screen, a personal mini-bar and a sliding divider in the centre seats for couples to create a shared lounge space. World Traveller Plus premium economy expands from 55 seats to 84. The new generation shell-style seats feature upgraded privacy wings, larger entertainment screens and a spacious 2-4-2 configuration. World Traveller economy takes the biggest space hit, losing 88 seats overall. However, the remaining seats are wider, featuring new upholstery, 4K entertainment screens, Bluetooth audio pairing and upgraded bedding.
