DAA appointed partner for major new international airport in Vietnam

DAA International has been named strategic and operational partner for Gia Binh International Airport in Vietnam, a €6 billion project expected to handle 30m passengers by 2030 and 50m by 2050. 

DAA International signed the strategic agreement with Masterise Aviation Infrastructure Joint Stock Company (a subsidiary of Vietnam’s Masterise Group). The Irish state-owned firm will leverage its 85-year aviation heritage to oversee airport planning, day-to-day operations, commercial strategy, and long-term capacity management. 

The airport is under construction in the northern province of Bac Ninh, approximately 40 kilometers from the capital city of Hanoi. The massive mega-project carries a development cost estimated between €6 billion and €7 billion ($6.4bn to $7bn). 

  • By 2030: Planned capacity to handle 30m passengers and 1.6m tonnes of cargo annually.
  • By 2050: Long-term capacity targets up to 50m passengers and 2.5m tonnes of cargo.

The hub is being designed to meet strict 5-star international standards to serve as a flagship trade, logistics, and aviation hub for the country This project expands daa International’s growing global footprint, which already includes major airport management and retail operations across Saudi Arabia, Europe, and the broader Asia-Pacific region. 

Nick Cole (CEO of daa International and Deputy CEO of daa) called the collaboration a “landmark project for Vietnam” aimed at building local aviation expertise.
