Dublin has been ranked sixth out of 1,000 cities worldwide in the Oxford Economics Global Cities Index 2026. The ranking places the capital among the top-performing cities globally for economic strength, sustainability and human capital. The index reflects the strength of the wider Dublin city region as a centre for investment, innovation, talent and international business.

Dublin ranks 12th globally for Economics, 35th for Human Capital and 9th for Environment. The report identifies Dublin’s strengths as high GDP per person, strong university provision and lower emissions intensity.

The Lord Mayor of Dublin Daryl Barron welcomed the recognition. Chief Executive of Dublin City Council Richard Shakespeare stated that the position reflects strong economic foundations, talented workforce and commitment to sustainability. Oxford Economics is an independent economic forecasting and analysis firm covering more than 8,000 cities and regions and 200 countries worldwide.

Daryl Barron shared: This ranking reflects Dublin’s continued success as a vibrant, sustainable and internationally connected capital city. It is recognition of the people, communities, businesses and institutions that contribute to the city’s success every day. While there are challenges to address, particularly in relation to housing and affordability, this result demonstrates Dublin’s strengths and its continued attractiveness as a place to live, work, study and invest.
