Existing grants of €25,000 to €200,000 are insufficientfor the restoration of Dunguaire Castle, local lobby groups have said.
Dunguaire Castle has remained closed since 2022 due to safety concerns. Galway County Council took over ownership from Shannon Airport Group and estimates €5m for essential repair works.
Louis O’Hara shared “the question people in Kinvara and across County Galway have is why funding was made available to other local authorities to take control of Shannon’s heritage assets, but not to Galway County Council.”
