Iberia has opened its new Madrid flagship lounge, the Emerald Lounge Sorolla, on 10 September 2026. The 800 sqm space has accommodated just 128 guests and has been designed for Iberia’s highest-tier customers travelling on short- and medium-haul flights. The lounge has provided the first clues to a much bigger transformation of the Spanish carrier, including an all-new Business Class experience next year.

The lounge has taken its name from Joaquín Sorolla, the Spanish painter celebrated for his handling of Mediterranean light. Furniture has been designed by Patricia Urquiola, recipient of Spain’s 2025 National Design Award. The space has included two private suite-style rest cabins featuring soundproofing, alongside showers, indirect lighting and a signature scent. Guests have been welcomed by a dedicated team with Iberia promising a more proactive style of service.

At the centre of the lounge has been a 360-degree circular bar permanently staffed by a bartender, serving cocktails, Champagne, premium cava, wine, spirits and aperitifs. A barista service has been supported by a self-service coffee station. Food has changed throughout the day, with breakfast including homemade pastries, tomato-rubbed toast and hot dishes prepared to order, before the offer has moved towards tapas and Iberian produce, followed by Mediterranean-inspired dishes at lunch and dinner. Iberia has planned to use the lounge as a changing showcase for Spanish culture with food, cocktail and wellbeing experiences throughout the year.
