Jet2 bucks the trend with 7pc rise in summer bookings

Jet2 summer bookings gain momentumJet2 has reported that its summer booking numbers have risen despite ongoing tensions in the Middle East. 

The company confirmed booked-to-date summer passengers stand 7.1pc higher than the previous year. Shares in the Leeds-based firm increased by 16pc following the update.

Jet2 operates across 25 countries and noted strongest demand in areas such as Turkey, Cyprus, eastern Greek islands and parts of North Africa. The airline has hedged 90pc of its full-year jet fuel requirements at an average price of €690 per metric ton. On-sale capacity for the summer runs 7.7pc ahead of last year with load factors 1.2 percentage points higher.

Jet2 launched a €292m share buyback programme. Pretax profit reached €645m for the year ended 31 March. New operations at London Gatwick performed ahead of expectations.

Steve Heapy shared “demand had strengthened following the calming of events in the Gulf.”
