- 12 seats on A220/A320 and 16 on A321 aircraft

- Full fleet retrofits expected by 2028
JetBlue Airways has unveiled BlueFirst, its first-ever domestic first-class product featuring a 2×2 seating configuration with Collins Aerospace MiQ recliners and Tuft & Needle comfort foam for optimised pressure relief, with bookings opening in autumn 2026. The seats offer up to 5 inches of recline and 7 inches of additional legroom compared to standard Main cabin seats, with 12 seats on Airbus A220 and A320 aircraft and 16 seats on stretched A321 planes, with full fleet retrofits expected by 2028. The product includes 13.3-inch seatback screens with Bluetooth headphone pairing and an interactive “Mixologist Mode” for ordering custom cocktails directly from the seat.
Fare bookings utilise a structured choice of base, standard and flex options, allowing passengers to unbundle features like seat selection for a cheaper entry price, with ticket holders receiving Group 1 boarding, dedicated overhead bin space, priority check-in and expedited security lanes at over 30 airports. Longer flights of 899 or more miles include bento-inspired hot meals, while snack brands and specialty coffee options are standard across all routes. The product intensifies competition for higher-value travellers focused on comfort, technology and service as American, Delta and United continue expanding premium seating options.
Airlines across the United States are fitting more premium seats across aircraft types to capture demand from passengers willing to pay more for enhanced experiences on domestic and short-haul routes. The move by JetBlue brings the airline into direct competition with legacy carriers in the domestic premium market, complementing its existing transcontinental Mint service. Full fleet retrofits are scheduled for completion by 2028.
JetBlue shared “The Mixologist Mode feature allows passengers to order custom cocktails directly from their seatback screens, while the Bluetooth headphone pairing ensures a personalised entertainment experience throughout the flight. BlueFirst has been developed to offer passengers a fresh take on domestic first-class travel, with the seat design incorporating comfort innovations and the fare structure providing flexibility for different traveller preferences.”
