Regional airline Loganair has confirmed it will close its base at Southampton Airport at the end of October 2026. The decision follows a review of the wider network and operational setup aimed at improving efficiency and resilience. The closure will result in the immediate axing of two regional routes: Southampton to Manchester and Manchester to Exeter, with the final flights scheduled for Thursday 20 August 2026.
While the dedicated physical operating base, which opened in January 2026, will close and no longer permanently station aircraft, Loganair will continue to operate other existing services from Southampton on a reduced, non-base capacity. Aircraft and crew from the closed base will be redeployed to other parts of the network. The airline stated that the “demand-led decision” forms part of a wider strategic update affecting operating bases and overall network delivery.
Passengers with affected bookings on the cancelled routes will be contacted directly and offered alternative travel options where available, or a full refund where no suitable alternative exists. Loganair previously announced a reduction in services in June, citing financial pressures. Managing representatives from Southampton Airport expressed disappointment over the withdrawal of the Manchester connection but stated that Loganair remains an important partner for the airport.
Loganair shared: “Following a review of our wider network and operational setup, we have taken the difficult decision to close our Southampton operating base at the end of October. This demand-led decision is part of a wider strategic update, which sees changes to operating bases and overall network delivery.”
