Inis Oírr pier among National Development Plan rural funding increases

The government has allocated €1.3bn in capital funding for rural, community, and Gaeltacht programmes from 2026 to 2030.

Funding supports the Inis Oírr pier development in County Galway. Investment has progressed the Harcourt Street Irish language hub in Dublin. A new RAPID-style programme targeted disadvantaged communities nationwide. Annual capital rose from €258m in 2025 to €273m in 2026.

Dara Calleary TD, Minister for Rural and Community Development and the Gaeltacht shared “The increased funding in the NDP will allow us to invest in vital piers infrastructure for our island communities, enhancing facilities for people living on our islands and for visiting tourists.” 

Jerry Buttimer TD, Minister of State shared “This funding will ensure continued support for capital investment in community infrastructure and enable us to deliver on a Programme for Government.”
