Major US airlines have waived flight-change fees and fare differences for passengers travelling through the Northeast this weekend ahead of a powerful, early-season nor’easter. The storm is projected to impact areas spanning from North Carolina up through New England, bringing threat of heavy rain, high winds up to 60 mph and dangerous coastal flooding. Flight operations already began seeing major bottlenecks on Friday, with LaGuardia Airport reporting nearly 600 delayed flights, amounting to more than half of its scheduled traffic.
American Airlines covers flights scheduled from 25 to 27 September across 16 regional airports including New York City hubs, Philadelphia and Washington DC. Passengers can rebook for travel through 29 September without fees. United Airlines applies to 10 airports extending from Philadelphia up to Portland Maine for travel between 25 and 27 September with rebooked travel required by 29 September.
