Dublin City Council has announced the return of ‘Opera in the Open’ for the 27th year, starting 6 August at the Civic Offices Amphitheatre on Wood Quay. The free event will take place on four consecutive Thursdays from 1pm to 2pm. No booking is required for the performances.
The programme includes Madama Butterfly by Giacomo Puccini on 6 August, Dido and Aeneas by Henry Purcell on 13 August, Orpheus in the Underworld by Jacques Offenbach on 20 August, and a Gala performance celebrating the work of Giuseppe Verdi on 27 August.
Dublin City Council recommends attendees bring cushions, blankets and camping chairs for additional comfort. The event shows that there is a substantial audience for opera in Dublin, with no better way to enjoy summer in Dublin than enjoying an aria at lunchtime each Thursday throughout August.
