Ryanair highlights OTA overcharges in February survey

0

Ryanair has released its February online travel agency survey revealing that platforms including eDreams, Vola, and Tryp continue to charge consumers significantly more than prices on Ryanair’s website. Examples include eDreams selling a reserved seat for €20.90 compared to €10.00 on Ryanair.com, and Vola charging €25.00 for a 10kg bag against €13.49 direct. These OTAs lack distribution agreements with Ryanair due to their pricing models.

The survey adds to evidence of overcharging, following an Italian authority fine of €9m against eDreams for deceptive practices and a Hamburg court ruling on misleading price presentation. Ryanair campaigns for mandatory price transparency across OTAs to protect consumers.

Dara Brady from Ryanair called for urgent action from EU governments and consumer authorities to enforce transparency standards matching those of approved partners.

Dara Brady shared “Ryanair’s February survey shows that some OTAs like eDreams, Vola, and Tryp continue to overcharge unsuspecting consumers, in some cases more than double the prices on Ryanair’s website. Yet still, Spain’s useless Consumer Minister Bustinduy, refuses to do anything to protect thousands of Spanish consumers from such eDreams overcharging.”
