The Irish High Court recorded binding undertakings from eDreams that require the OTA to cease all access to Ryanair’s Travel Agent Direct (TAD) booking system.
eDreams agreed to stop direct and indirect access, prevent third-party use, and shut down any ongoing activity. The order followed Ryanair’s action to block eDreams’ attempts to sell flights through unlawful access and third-party conspiracies.
Ryanair told the court that eDreams took part in a scheme to circumvent its new secure travel agent direct platform for bricks-and-mortar agencies.
Proceedings sought injunctions against eDreams, PT Scan Ocean Travel and Geelong Travel from using or exploiting the platform.
PT Scan made 22,435 Ryanair bookings through the platform since 6 January at a rate of about one every three minutes around the clock.
Access to the platform for PT Scan and Geelong was suspended in late February after customer complaints linked bookings to eDreams.
Geelong Travel is a private family-owned travel agency based in Belmont, Victoria, specializing in bespoke leisure, corporate, and luxury travel. They are recognized for expertise in cruising, coach tours, independent journeys, and hosting exclusive travel events. The agency is led by owner Stuart Coffield
Ryanair told the court that the conduct creates regulatory, data, consumer and reputational risks for the airline. The airline and eDreams have a long and fractious history involving multi-jurisdictional disputes about flight data being scraped from the airline’s website.” Ryanair says it has offered eDreams free API access if it adopted transparency standards that other OTAs accepted.
Dara Brady CMO of Ryanair shared “Today’s High Court Order is a welcome development that prevents eDreams from unlawfully accessing Ryanair’s TAD booking systems. Ryanair will continue to take action to protect consumers from overcharging and from the misleading practices of screenscraping OTAs such as eDreams. Our priority remains, ensuring passengers benefit from Ryanair’s industry‑leading transparency standards, as delivered by our approved OTA partners, and that they receive the full, direct service they are entitled to when booking Ryanair flights.”
