The Shannon Airport Group has published its first annual Sustainability Report, highlighting significant progress in environmental stewardship and setting ambitious targets through to 2028.

Key achievements in 2025 include a 54pc reduction in Scope 1 and 2 emissions from the 2018 baseline and a 37pc cut in direct fossil fuel emissions. The group launched Ireland’s first on-airfield solar PV farm, which now supplies up to 20pc of the airport’s electricity needs, while half of its vehicle fleet is now electrified.

Additional initiatives encompass energy management certification, energy-efficient developments at the business park, circular economy practices such as remanufactured furniture, and biodiversity efforts. The report underscores the group’s role in connecting Ireland sustainably while supporting regional growth:

  • Emissions Reduction: Achieved a 54pc reduction in Scope 1 and Scope 2 greenhouse gas emissions since 2018.
  • Energy Efficiency: Met the group’s 2030 energy efficiency target five years early, cutting consumption by 57pc since 2009.
  • Renewable Power: Launched Ireland’s first airfield-based solar PV farm, capable of meeting up to 20pc of the airport’s electricity needs.
  • Circular Economy: Fitted out its new Operations Centre using 93pc remanufactured furniture, which diverted 1,600 kg of waste and cut embodied carbon by 80pc.
  • Global Accreditation: Reached Level 3 Airport Carbon Accreditation.
  • Social Impact: Raised €80,000 for local charities and added a Changing Places toilet facility to enhance accessibility.
