Türkiye has revealed a series of major restoration and landscaping projects across ancient sites in the Antalya province. Driven by the global rise in heritage tourism these efforts are part of the Ministry of Culture and Tourism’s Legacy for the Future project to safeguard historical assets while upgrading the visitor experience. Instead of relying solely on beach tourism the country is highlighting its Lycian, Pamphylian and Roman history through several key renewals.
The Andriake Archaeological Site once the principal port of the ancient Lycian civilization has reopened with new visitor walkways. Tourists can explore vertically preserved ruins including ship shelters, a Roman fountain and an aqueduct. The Museum of Lycian Civilisations located in Demre is housed inside a restored ancient granary. It has been fitted with exhibition galleries showcasing newly discovered artefacts like rare Roman jewellery and millefiori glasswork.
The Ancient City of Syedra perched on a hill in Alanya has debuted a new visitor centre and enhanced landscaping. Major work continues in the Ancient City of Side which now features a nighttime illumination project. Hıdırlık Tower in Antalya’s historic Kaleiçi district has had structural restoration completed alongside the creation of an archaeological viewing terrace. The indoor Antalya Archaeology Museum is currently closed through the end of 2026 for a seismic safety upgrade.
