United Airlines takes delivery of first A321XLR

United Airlines took delivery of its first A321-200NY(XLR) on 3 June 2026. It is expected the aircraft will replace the B757 on thinner long haul routes, possibly including Irish routes. 

The aircraft, registered N64321 with msn 12581, ferried from Hamburg Finkenwerder to Tampa International. This delivery forms part of an order for 50 A321-200NY(XLR)s placed directly with Airbus. United became the second US carrier to receive the type after American Airlines.Five additional XLRs with registrations N54323, N54325, N54326, N64322 and N64324 await delivery to United shortly. Last month the carrier also received its first iMTOW B787-9, registered N81105. The iMTOW update adds around three metric tonnes of payload capacity or over 300 nautical miles of range. Boeing plans an iMTOW version of the B787-10 that adds around five metric tonnes of payload or over 400 nautical miles of range
