Community groups and local councils continue to advocate for a new greenway connecting Ballinamore and Mohill in County Leitrim to support walking and cycling tourism in the region.
The proposed greenway forms part of a larger vision for a Cavan-Leitrim Greenway along the old narrow-gauge railway line extending from Mohill through Ballinamore to Belturbet.
A short demonstration section exists from Ballinamore to Corgar (opened in 2022), with extensions towards Ballyconnell progressing slowly.
The Ballinamore-Mohill section (approximately 15km) has not secured funding.
